Hello. My name is Koda, and I have three years of experience caring for my mother.
I would like to write about my "regrets" during my caregiving period. Initially, I had absolutely no experience or knowledge of caregiving. Therefore, I did not apply for long-term care insurance or other benefits until a considerable amount of time had passed since my caregiving life began.
Fortunately, I had been a stay-at-home wife for a long time, so I didn't feel much inconvenience at first. Now, I regret that "if I had used it earlier, I wouldn't have felt financially stressed later on."
Next, let's talk about caregiving goods.
In recent years, various caregiving goods and products useful for caregiving have been released.
For example, I believe that "goods that allow you to open plastic bottles even with weak grip strength" serve as a deterrent to the care recipient (in my case, my mother) becoming completely dependent.
It may seem trivial, but I believe that increasing even one such independent action can slow the progression of dementia, and at the same time, reduce the burden on the caregiver.
I now strongly believe that actively incorporating such systems and tools is the secret to successfully navigating caregiving life.
